The Tamarindo estuary is a Ramsar-protected wetland inside Las Baulas National Marine Park — one of the most biodiverse mangroves on the entire Pacific coast of the Americas. Five species of mangrove crowd the riverbanks, their roots making a maze of narrow channels that hide one of the densest concentrations of birdlife in Costa Rica.
On this trip, we slip into those channels in a quiet, shaded boat. The captain knows where the crocodiles haul out, where the howler monkeys spend their mornings, and where the boat-billed herons hide. Going early or late in the day means cooler temperatures, better light, and the most active wildlife.
This is a private tour — just you, your group, and the captain. No fixed schedule, no other guests, no rushing past anything you want to stop and watch.
